"Suzanne Thompson Honoured with the 2024 Women in Leadership Trailblazer in Social Impact Award"
The Restore Trust was established in 2010 as a non-profit social enterprise by our Chief Executive, Suzanne Thompson. Initially, its mission was to create 100 job opportunities for the long-term unemployed within the criminal justice system, a goal which was successfully met alongside a notable decrease in recidivism among participants.
Since then, Suzanne has built a skilled Education, Training, and Employment (ETE) team known for effectively supporting individuals transitioning from prison, helping them overcome barriers to employment and training. For over a decade, The Restore Trust has offered guidance and support through services like the National Careers Service, and vocational training programs that conclude with guaranteed job interviews. These efforts have achieved a job placement rate of approximately 60% for those who completed training and participated in interviews.
The organization has continuously advanced industry best practices and has been recognized as a top provider by becoming a direct contract holder with the West of England Combined Authority, placing it among the top five vocational training providers in the region.
Suzanne Thompson also founded a new charity, The Key (visit https://thekeybristol.com/), which will shortly operate a café/retail space employing individuals transitioning from HMP Bristol. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce reoffending by securing employment, a critical factor in successful reintegration.
Additionally, The Restore Trust has transformed its premises into a community hub, providing a welcoming space for probation meetings, complete with refreshments, snacks, and even donated clothing when necessary.
Our team’s success stories include numerous individuals who have gained CSCS certification and moved into full-time construction roles, further reducing recidivism rates.
The ETE team, led by Suzanne Thompson and Education Director Chris Scriven, has been pivotal in developing vocational programs aligned with the current job market. Their dedication and strong employer partnerships continue to enhance access to employment for our learners.
Feedback from our learners confirms the transformative impact of our work, highlighting The Restore Trust's role in helping individuals contribute positively to society.
